The Gambia retreat: Q&A

We are super excited to be launching our 2024 retreat to The Gambia! This coming April we will be heading to West Africa for an unforgettable experience of yoga and culture.

Here we will answer the questions we’ve been asked. If you would like to join us or learn more, head here.

How many people in total will attend the retreat?

There will be 12 people in total attending the retreat. We limit the group size to ensure an intimate feeling while the opportunity to meet lots of amazing people.

pre-post travel arrangements

We offer flight recommendations to attending guests. It is then the responsibility of the individual to book and pay for their flights. Airport pick-up and drop-off are arranged by us and the price is included in the retreat total.

What sort of exploring will we do in Gambia?

This trip offers a cultural tour that explores the local museum, fishing port and village market. On another day we will also do a boat trip to Southern Senegal, with a guided tour of local birds along the way. We will have some lunches and dinners at local restaurants to support community businesses. During free time, there will be group trips to the beach (around 15 minutes walk).

Do many people come on their own?

Definitely! Many people choose to attend our retreats solo for a truly enriching wellness experience. Currently, around 60% of people attending the retreat are coming solo.

Is it possible to book a place provisionally and cancel if unable to attend? Are deposits refundable?

The deposit is non-refundable, as it covers the time and work spent arranging your place, finding a replacement and the risk of not finding one. Due to non-recoverable payments that we must make in advance to secure the retreat, exceptions to our policies cannot be made unfortunately.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We currently have a 3-month payment plan available (as of December 2023).

Does it include the price of flights?

No, the retreat price does not include flights. We will send recommended flights and this should be booked by you.

Once you arrive at the airport, we cover everything from there. This includes airport transfers, accommodation, all yoga sessions, 2 daily meals, a yoga workshop, a cultural tour, housekeeping, towels and wifi.

Is the retreat for people of colour only?

Nope, we offer early booking and discounts to people of colour in our BPOC yoga club to help encourage diversity and inclusivity for our trips. Our retreats are majority POC but open to all, as we believe everyone should discover, learn about and enjoy African & Caribbean culture 😊.

Do I need to have done yoga before, and do I need to bring a mat?

We are open to all yoga abilities, whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced practitioner. We ask that you have an interest in yoga and join most sessions, but you do not need to attend every class if you don’t feel like it (it’s a holiday after all!).

You do not need to bring any yoga equipment as this will be provided.

How do I sign up to attend?

To attend this retreat you must register interest here first. From there, if spaces are available you'll receive an email which provides details for booking.

What will the food be like?

We cater to all dietary requirements on this trip. With every meal, there will be delicious veggie/vegan options as well as a meat or fish option. Breakfast includes a range of teas/coffee, juices, eggs any-style, muesli, local honey, jams, yoghurt, cheese and salad. Lunch tends to be light meals, and dinner is local Gambian dishes (2-course are included, but you’re welcome to upgrade to 3!).

What style of yoga do you offer?

The mornings will be an energising vinyasa practice and the evenings will be a slower yin. We'll also have a Kemetic yoga introductory workshop planned for one evening.
